On February 13, 2025, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at Vietnam Japan University and the School of Social Sciences at Waseda University held a signing ceremony for the Double Degree Program, which is set to begin in September 2025. This program enables students to study abroad for two years during their enrollment and, by fulfilling the necessary requirements at both institutions, earn degrees from both universities.
At the signing ceremony, Professor Yoichi Sato, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Waseda University, stated, “I am delighted that we have officially signed the Double Degree Program with the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at Vietnam Japan University. This marks the culmination of many years of exchange and cooperation.”
Rector Professor Motoo Furuta of Vietnam Japan University added, “Since the establishment of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, we have maintained a close cooperative relationship with the School of Social Sciences at Waseda University. In 2023, we facilitated student exchanges through the JST ‘Sakura Science Program,’ and from 2024, we have begun recommending transfer students for their third year. Moving forward, we aim to further develop these achievements and contribute to the cultivation of talent who will serve as bridges between Japan, Vietnam, and the international community.”
Following the signing ceremony, Rector Professor Furuta also introduced the concept of the interdisciplinary English-degree program Global Development and Innovation, which is scheduled to launch at Vietnam Japan University in September 2025. This program closely aligns with TAISI (Transnational and Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Innovation), the English-degree program of the School of Social Sciences at Waseda University. It is expected to further expand educational and research exchanges between Japan and Vietnam.
