Since the adoption of the Doi Moi (Renovation) policy in 1986, Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic growth driven by export expansion and foreign direct investment. In 2010, Vietnam joined the ranks of middle-income countries, and its GDP growth rate has since remained stable at 5–7% annually. By 2023, Vietnam’s GDP per capita surpassed USD 4,000.
The Vietnamese government, under its 2021–2030 ten-year socio-economic development strategy, aims to restructure the economy, advance green and digital economies, and develop a digital society. To achieve these goals, the government has committed to maximizing the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution while fostering comprehensive and extensive integration into the global community.
However, to ensure sustainable development and avoid the “middle-income trap,” Vietnam must focus on increasing productivity and accumulating human capital. Recognizing this, the Vietnamese government has prioritized investment in research and development (R&D) and human resource development, integrating these efforts into its national strategies and master plans.
Traditionally, Vietnam’s manufacturing sector has relied on labor-intensive production methods. However, with recent social and economic transformations, there is a growing demand for deeper integration and higher value-added activities within the global value chain. As a result, Vietnam’s “manufacturing business model” is undergoing significant change, necessitating the cultivation of human resources equipped with advanced and diverse knowledge and skills in manufacturing.
This seminar will explore the evolving trends in Vietnam’s manufacturing sector, the types of talent required in the future, and the manufacturing education initiatives envisioned by Vietnam-Japan University. We also encourage participating companies to consider contributing to joint educational activities, such as lectures for Vietnam-Japan University students.
